A primary goal of the Arizona Space Grant Program is to support creative and cost-effective K-12 outreach efforts, especially to under-served populations in our state. Across Arizona, we support outreach efforts to K-12 students and teachers at local and remote reservation schools. Many of these are geared to bring knowledgeable practitioners of science--conducting real scientific experiments, demonstrations and observations--to young students and their teachers. This is in line with national education goals, as articulated in the FCCSET report and others which state that hands-on, interactive science should be disseminated as broadly as possible in the schools. It is believed that this will eventually be reflected in increased critical thinking skills of graduating students. Further, teacher training programs aimed at increasing the effectiveness of classroom science teaching, are supported, as are programs aimed at developing astronomy education materials. See:
