Overview: The Center for Human Space Exploration (CHaSE) is a research and development facility focused on furthering the sustainable presence of humanity in our solar system and beyond. With access to world class facilities, CHaSE provides experiential opportunities and resources to foster the global space community.

The University of Arizona Biosphere 2 Center for Human Space Exploration (CHaSE) Spacesuit Training Course is an invaluable opportunity to gain comprehensive knowledge and expertise with spacesuits.

By the end of the course, participants will have had a thorough introduction to spacesuits and their operational protocols, including practical hands-on experience with donning (putting on), doffing (taking off) and pressurizing spacesuits safely and efficiently.

Eligibility: Participants must be a student enrolled in any Arizona in-person high school, college, or university. Participants must be at least 18 years of age by the start date of the program. The course is open to individuals of all backgrounds. There are no prerequisites to apply.  There is no restriction on declared majors or future career paths.

We seek a diverse group of enthusiastic and motivated students. Applications are especially encouraged from students traditionally underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Students must be able to commit to the full program, which runs in-person one day (8AM-5PM) on the University of Arizona campus in Tucson, AZ. This program is located on the University of Arizona campus in the Applied Research Building, Center for Human Space Exploration (1420 E Helen St, Tucson, AZ 85719).

Cost: This program is free! If selected, your participation fee (normally $900) will be completely covered through a CHaSE program grant. 

Slots: 40 slots total. 4 Single day programs (10 participants per program day).

April 2025 Dates: 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th

Program Confirmation

I am able to attend the full (8AM-5PM) program day, in person, on the University of Arizona campus at the Applied Research Building, Center for Human Space Exploration (1420 E Helen St, Tucson, AZ 85719). 

I understand that parking is not provided as part of this program. [We recommend parking in the nearby Highland Avenue Garage. Parking is $2 per hour]

Spacesuit Sizing Acknowledgement
CHaSE currently uses two training pressure suits for student education. Size tall and size medium. As bodies come in all shapes and sizes, your personal measurements may or may not allow you to don the suits successfully. If your personal measurements are close to the given values, it is still not a guarantee you will be able to don the suit. If your measurements are smaller than the suit size outlined we should be easily able to accommodate.
 
Students should be okay with the feeling of being potentially claustrophobic.
