Space Grant Outreach Content & Resources

View STEM Content Created by Arizona Space Grant Students!


Across the state, the Arizona Space Grant Consortium funds over 100 students per year. Many of these students, and especially our Space Grant Graduate Fellows, work hard to create STEM outreach components to their research projects. Outreach may be applicable for K-12, college, and general public audiences, and students have created content for a variety of STEM subjects. Please find some of these resources below.


Lane Breshears, University of Arizona, 2020-21 Fellow "DIY Biosensors" Website and "DIY Biosensors YouTube"

  • Audience: Middle and High School
  • Topic: DIY Biosensors teaches middle schoolers how to use a smartphone as a microscope to learn about antibody-antigen binding, improve their understanding of the tests being performed to detect viruses like Covid-19, and explore the exciting process of DIY science using fluorescence microscopy and 3D printing.


Dawson Fairbanks, University of Arizona, 2019-20 Fellow "From Science to Conservation: Career Paths in Environmental Sustainability"

  • Video 1: "Tiny But Mighty", Video 2: "Becoming an Environmental Steward"
  • Audience: All ages
  • Topic: These videos are a method of storytelling to showcase the multiple avenues by which individuals can positively influence and apply STEM knowledge to study, conserve, and restore natural ecosystems.


Matthew Katterman, University of Arizona 2020 Fellow "Space Posthaste: A Video Podcast"

  • Audience: Middle School Grades 6-8
  • Topic: This series of PowerPoint lesson plans and worksheets teach middle school students about the Environmental Control and Life Support Systems that NASA utilizes in outer space and on space stations.


Mitchell Kirshner, University of Arizona 2022 Fellow "NASA Life Support System Curriculum"

  • Audience: K-12 and General Public
  • Topic: A series of short video podcasts hosted on YouTube with the intent to help everyone understand advanced space topics and spread awareness of space science and engineering.


Marina Kisley, University of Arizona 2021 Fellow: "Your Universe Podcast"

  • Audience: Adult, General Public
  • Topic: This podcast series explores your biggest questions about the universe. How did life begin? How did the stars get their names? Listen and enjoy!


Parker Landon, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, 2019-22 Intern "Introduction to Interferometry"

  • Audience: Middle School, High School
  • Topic: This video introduces interferometry and optical safety. It discusses the concepts of gravitational waves and how scientists use lasers to identify them.


Kai Lepley, University of Arizona 2021-22 Fellow: "Agrivoltaics Atlas"

  • Audience: General Public
  • Topic: Agrivoltaics, also known as "dual-use" or "co-located" renewable energy, is the practice of combining agriculture with solar power generation. This innovative approach can provide benefits for both farmers and solar energy producers. Learn more about agrivoltaics initiatives from around the world, and hear stories from those that use it through this interactive website and story map.


Paul Rogozenski, University of Arizona, 2022 Fellow "Cosmology Quick-Start Program"

  • Audience: High School, Undergraduate
  • Topic: Cosmology is the study of the development, origin, structure, and fate of the universe. This Program will provide introductions to many of the topics necessary to being successful in the field of Cosmology but can be applied to most STEM fields, including important topics in physics, Python coding, and statistical inference. This course is not robust nor complete, but rather provides a high-level understanding of the relevant processes in the history of the universe and their connections without significant math overhead. 

Diana Zamora-Reyes, University of Arizona, 2019 Fellow "Story Maps of Historical Flooding in Arizona"

  • Audience: Middle, High School, and Adult
  • Topic: View an assortment of ArcGIS Story Maps (SMs), which are online interactive narratives that describe the development, attributes and consequences of flooding throughout Arizona. These SMs include graphics, images, and videos in both English and Spanish.
