ASU Space Grant Success Stories

Lindsey Tober is majoring in Technological Leadership with a minor in Film and Media Production. Linsey has “completed multiple internships while at ASU, including supporting the filming and editing of YouTube content that makes space research accessible to everyone through a NASA Space Grant internship." She will be graduating in Fall 2025 and "hopes to pursue a career that blends film and media with space and science."

Amanda Gibbons, ASU ASCEND team member, talks about her desire to study meteorology, work with climate data, and how she used various offerings from campus life to enhance her academic career. Amanda will be attending the University of Arizona this Fall as a graduate student in Atmospheric Sciences.

Charley recently presented her research at the Arizona NASA Space Grant Statewide Student Research Symposium, titled “A Direct Imaging Search for Substellar Companions around B & A Stars”. Charley will graduate this May from ASU and will continue her education as an astronomy graduate student at the University of Hertfordshire in England.

Across the state, Arizona Space Grant awards over 150 internships each year. Interns play critical roles in the research happening at our universities, research centers, within local industry, and at NASA Centers. Marquez was one of three Interplanetary Initiative students who received an ASU NASA Space Grant internship for AY23-24, enabling him to embark on a self-directed project exploring the use of AI-powered chatbots for exoplanet research

Burgard is graduating in May with a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, a Spanish minor and a certificate in environmental humanities, with honors from Barrett, The Honors College at ASU. She put her skills into action through research, community service and entrepreneurship.

As an ASU NASA Space Grant recipient and intern, Ortiz assisted with the processing of James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) cosmic ray rejection data, which cleans JWST images by identifying and removing stray cosmic rays from images.

Ritisha Das, a Senior studying Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics with an emphasis in computational mechanics at Arizona State University, was one of 47 student awardees.

Hailing from diverse backgrounds, each of the selected students is pursuing a degree in the Interplanetary Initiative’s technological leadership program, a unique degree that prepares students to answer tomorrow’s questions in the fields of science and technology.
