Project Shirley_2

Project Description: The intern will help design and conduct spectral line observations with the new spectrometer on the 10m Submillimeter Telescope on Mount Graham.  Observations may be conducted remotely (via laptop) but will include a trip to the observatory to see how everything works.  The intern will analyze and combine the spectral scans and use spectroscopic catalogs to identify the detected molecules in the spectrum.  Combining these observations with observations at lower frequencies, the abundances of molecules will be derived and their chemistry interpreted.

NASA Relevance: This project addresses a fundamental area of research traditionally supported by NASA science missions - the study of star formation.
