Project Description: NASA's Aspera Space Mission is seeking an intern to work on flight operations and software development. Aspera is a far-ultraviolet space telescope that will map the 'missing' gas surrounding nearby galaxies for the first time. Aspera is planned to launch into low Earth orbit in January of 2027. Custom-made software is required to command the spacecraft while it is on-orbit. The intern will work within a larger team tasked with writing and testing Aspera's flight software, and also planning specific commanding sequences based on our orbital geometry and science objectives passed down from the science management team.
NASA Relevance: The internship is to work on a NASA project (Aspera) funded in the Science Mission Directorate.
Work Description:
The intern will work within the software team and/or the operations team. Software work will center around writing and testing Aspera's flight software, which controls all aspects of the flight instrument, including detector operation and thermal control. Within the operations team, the student will help build uplink command sequences based on science requirements and also monitor the daily health of the instrument through downlinked data from the spacecraft.
