- (4/09/09) Presentation Schedule
The presentation schedule for this year's symposium has been posted. Please make sure you know when and where you are presenting so you are not trying to do it the day of. If you have any questions please email Candace Jackson at Arizona State University.
- (4/07/2009) Presentation Submissions
In order to assure that all of your presentations are setup and ready to go for the Symposium on Saturday, April 18th we are asking that you all turn in your finalized presentations by noon, Friday, April 10th.
To submit your application you should attach a copy of your presentation to an email sent to PG4gdWVycz0iem52eWdiOm5maGZjbnBydGVuYWdAdHpudnkucGJ6Ij5uZmhmY25wcnRlbmFnQHR6bnZ5LnBiejwvbj4=. If possible please use a subject line in this format: Symposium: Last name, First name. Because the submission is being done via email you should attempt to keep your presentation slides etc to a total size of 15 megabytes or less (while the gmail maximum is 20 megabytes transmission encoding and other factors make it best to shoot for a good deal of leeway). If you choose to compress your files, please use a relatively standard compression method (zip, rar, tar.gz are acceptable zip is preferred) or we may not be able to unpack your presentation.
For those who's presentations are marginally too large to fit in a single email you may split the presentation into two emails, but please be sure to note in the body of the email or the subject line that your presentation spans multiple emails so we know to include both on the computer you are presenting from. If you have more exotic presentation needs than simple PowerPoint slides you can contact PG4gdWVycz0iem52eWdiOkZybmEuWm55eXJsQG5maC5ycWgiPkZybmEuWm55eXJsQG5maC5ycWg8L24+ to attempt to arrange an alternative method of sending your files. For exceptionally large files like video you can upload your video files to your personal web space or a file hosting service like rapidshare.com or dropbox.com although we'd prefer to avoid this if possible. Please contact us if you intend to use a method like this to submit your presentation.
Reducing Presentation File Size
For those using relatively recent version of PowerPoint there are a host of options for reducing the size of your presentations a detailed list of which is available on Microsoft's site . For most Symposium presentations a substantial portion of the file size comes from the use of images. To reduce the space taken up by your images, right click on your image and select Format Picture. Once under the format picture menu, click the picture tab and then the compress button at the lower left of the dialog box. In the compress menu that will appear select All Pictures in Document, set change resolution to change to Web/Screen and leave the compress images and delete cropped areas of images checked. This will dramatically reduce the size of your presentation if you have included many images, or very large images (like those from dSLR cameras). You need not worry about the compression, as even reduced in size and compressed large images will still likely be larger than the maximum resolution of a standard projector. (Doing this with a single large image can sometimes shrink the file size by a factor of 10). If you have other concerns or questions please feel free to contact PG4gdWVycz0iem52eWdiOkZybmEuWm55eXJsQG5maC5ycWgiPkZybmEuWm55eXJsQG5maC5ycWg8L24+ - (4/02/2009) Symposium Presentation Tips
