  • (3/6/08) Instructions and due dates

As you know, this year's Arizona/NASA Space Grant Undergraduate Research Internship Program Symposium will be hosted by UA in Tucson. There will be a program banquet at Phoenix Mission Science Operations Center on Friday, April 18, 2008, and the symposium will run the next day, April 19, from about 8:30 AM until 4:00 at the Kuiper Space Sciences Building.

All students are required to submit short, 150 word abstracts summarizing research accomplishments via a web based form (which will be available for use starting 3/10/08). (This form also has sections for students to select meal options, etc.) There is a FIRM abstract due date of March 28, 2008. The Symposium Tips page provides helpful hints about writing abstracts and later for completing PowerPoint presentations for the symposium.

This year we also have an online symposium and banquet registration form for mentors. This form will also be available and ready for use on 3/10/08.

At the symposium, each student will be allotted about 7 minutes to make an oral presentation about his or her research. We urge presentations to be constructed in PowerPoint for projection in meeting rooms. Electronic versions of PowerPoint presentations must be emailed to me by 5:00 PM on April 14, 2008. All presentations will be loaded on conference computers ahead of time, and the April 14 deadline will be enforced. (We simply do not have the person-power to accept presentations for loading onto conference computers on the Symposium day, so thank you in advance for planning for, preparing and submitting your presentations by the due date.)

Thank you in advance for your attention to these matters and we anticipate an especially great symposium this year!

  • (2/6/08) Invited Speaker Announced!

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, 8th District, ArizonaThis year's "After Dinner" speaker will be Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, 8th District, Arizona. Giffords is the youngest woman ever to be elected to the Arizona Senate, where she served from 2003 to 2005. She is currently the congresswoman for Arizona's 8th congressional district. She will be speaking at the Arizona Space Grant Consortium Symposium on April 18, 2008 at the Pheonix Mars Mission Science and Observation Center at 7:00PM as our invited speaker.

  • (11/1/07) Hotel Accommodations

This year we are doing something a bit different with symposium arrangements. The group hotel is Windmill Suites at St. Philip's Plaza at North Campbell and River Roads. The banquet will be held in the pit area of the Phoenix Mission Operations Center (6th Ave and Drachman). We hope this will be a unique and educational venue for interns and guests one month before the spacecraft is scheduled to arrive at Mars. The following day's symposium will be held at LPL in the Kuiper Space Sciences Building. UA is a straight shot south on Campbell from the hotel.
